Eros says, "Happy World Animal Day!" from Rifugio Fata:

October 4th is World Animal Day. It all began in 1931 in Florence, Italy, at a convention of ecologists. They chose this day to highlight the importance of protecting animal life on our planet, in all its magical forms. (Eros thinks you'll agree that his ears are pretty magical!) The 4th of October was originally chosen because it is the feast day of the patron saint of animals, Francis of Assisi. Now, World Animal Day has evolved into an international movement and it is celebrated by animal-lovers of all beliefs, nationalities and backgrounds. Special events honoring and supporting our animal friends are held in communities all over the world - in schools, churches, rescue shelters and parks.

I am very excited to announce that a group of private sponsors have chosen to celebrate World Animal Day by pledging their support to Rifugio Fata, and they have offered to DOUBLE any donation made to the shelter TODAY through until MONDAY EVENING, with a maximum total of 2000 Euros. 

This means that whatever we can raise for Rifugio Fata this weekend will be DOUBLED on Monday night, and all proceeds will go towards paying their monthly food, medical, and transport bills. What a fantastic World Animal Day gift!

Open House at RIFUGIO FATA

A big part of Rifugio Fata's work lies in their commitment to raising awareness and promoting educational initiatives in the local community. Their goal at the shelter is not only to rescue and rehome as many stray dogs as possible, but also to tackle the problem at a grassroots level by changing cultural attitudes towards our four-legged friends, strengthening the bond between dogs and their owners, and spreading a positive message about responsible dog ownership. The team regularly host 'open days' at Rifugio Fata in order to encourage members of the public to visit the shelter, meet the dogs and hear more about what they do. It is an educational day, packed full of fun and games for all the family... and, of course, lots of cuddles! And for the dogs, it is a great opportunity for them to wow their visitors and perhaps be lucky enough to find a loving home.

This year Rifugio Fata have launched their membership program. By becoming a member of Rifugio Fata, you can support their incredible efforts and, better still, join their fabulous dog-loving community! As a member, you will receive regular updates from the shelter and you will be invited to offer feedback, questions and suggestions.

Rifugio Fata is a non-profit shelter relying entirely on donations. The team have launched the membership program in order to cultivate a relationship with those who support them. The goal of the program is to generate a dialogue, pool ideas and raise awareness so that the shelter can better serve their beloved four-legged friends. 

All membership donations will go towards feeding and caring for Rifugio Fata's 160+ guests. Rifugio Fata have negotiated a fixed cost of €1500 for their monthly food bill, and every month they must pay their vet for sterilizations, microchipping, vaccinations and medical care. Rifugio Fata also funds the transportation of dogs to the North where they have a better chance of getting adopted. 

Joining the Rifugio Fata family is easy! You can choose from four different membership levels, and make an annual contribution that can be renewed. The membership fees are:

Regular membership: 15 Euros/year

Supporting membership: 30 Euros/year

Honorary membership: 100 Euros/year

Golden membership: Any amount above 15O Euros/year

Send an email to tesseramentofata@libero.it and they will send you a form to be filled out with your contact details. Once your have returned the form and made your donation, you will receive your membership card, along with confirmation of your payment.

Congratulations FOXY!

Little Foxy was one of the many puppies abandoned by the roadside in Southern Italy during the summer. Thanks to the fantastic team at Rifugio Fata, she was given a second chance. She was brought in to the shelter, microchipped, vaccinated and spayed. Not only that, she was posted on facebook and her unique charms caught somebody's eye. Foxy has now been adopted into a loving home, and her troubles are firmly behind her. Congratulations Foxy!

Brad says, SPONSOR ME...?

Remote adoption is a wonderful way to support the dogs at Rifugio Fata. If there is a particular dog that you want to help - like Brad (pictured above) for example - you can sponsor that dog for a nominal fee. Rifugio Fata will then send you photos and updates from your Southern Italian friend! They will love you forever!

OR send an email to:adozionirifugiofata@libero.it Once your adoption request is received, Rifugio Fata will send you a form to be filled out. You can let them know which lucky resident you have chosen (er, Brad, perhaps?) and for how long you would like to adopt that particular dog.

Penelope: A happy story from Rifugio Fata

Penelope was found at the gates of Rifugio Fata. Sadly, every day, dogs and puppies are dumped on the road to the shelter. Even with their walls overflowing, the team at the shelter do what they can to take them all in, treat them for medical problems and find them loving homes. And every day, it is an enormous challenge to make ends meet and to find people willing to open their doors to a new four-legged friend.

Penelope was found, like so many, in a state of neglect. She was malnourished, suffering from skin issues and in desperate need of some TLC. The team took her in and cared for her, and slowly she regained her health and her confidence. 

Meanwhile, a family in Turin (Northern Italy) had spotted Penelope on Rifugio Fata's facebook page and fallen in love with her. In a happy turn of events for Penelope, the family decided to adopt her and she made her journey North, to a brand new love-filled life.
